Hello lovelies! I’ve just finished an 8 hour shift and had a conversation in work with someone who was looking for a new show to start on Netflix. I found myself spouting details of various shows I’ve watched and realising I am a little bit of a Netflix addict! I’ve watched far too many of options available and spent far too way hours binging season after season. Nevertheless, I thought I would impart some of my wisdom and share with you some of my top picks from what Netflix has to offer.

The first two of my picks fall into the category ‘feel good’ and are shows I always turn to when I need a pick me up after a long, hard day.

FRIENDS – The royalty of comedy sitcoms. I don’t think it’s possible to watch and episode without smiling. I can watch an episode 100 times and not be bored. It’s just such a feel good, funny show with the most lovable characters. However, Chandler Bing will always be the best – could I BE anymore right?

GILMORE GIRLS – This show was actually a recommendation from a friend that from the moment I started I fell in love with. This show just fills me with hope and is another feel good classic in my opinion. You’ll become far too attached to the lives of mother daughter duo Lorelai and Rory Gilmore and love every second. Also, if you watch this show and don’t consider moving to Yale to become a journalist I commend you.

GAVIN AND STACEY – As a Welsh gal this is my go to when feeling homesick. Hilarious, feel good and original. Welsh or not this will have you in stitches.

My next few picks are for anyone who enjoys a good fantasy/ escape from reality. It’s no secret I do love a good superhero show – especially when Alex is a comic book nut.

GOTHAM – If you like the Batman movies then you’ll LOVE this show. Even if you’re not the biggest superhero fan, this show has mob, mafia, child slavery and all kinds of dark themes running throughout. This is a really gripping show with some superb villains but also doesn’t take itself too seriously.

ONCE UPON A TIME – This is one of the only shows on this list that I haven’t actually finished yet. I am on season 5 and am hooked. It puts really interesting and different twists on your classic childhood stories that are intertwined with the central plot. If you love anything disney, fairytale, mythical or magical then this is the show for you.

GRIMM – This was the very first show (along with OITNB) that Alex and I watched together on Netflix. It’s about a man that can see the darkness in others as they ‘woge’ into creatures found in fairytales and myths. I can’t describe this one very well but it is a excellent show – I promise.

Those of you that know me will be aware that I have a real curiosity and interest in the macabre and my favourite genre of TV is crime or thriller. It was really hard to narrow this section down but here goes…

THE OA – This is one of the most disturbing shows I have watched and the story line is so unpredictable even a seasoned professional like myself had no idea what was in store. An advanced warning this show is very obscure and strange. There are only 8 episodes and the story centres around a young girl that got kidnapped as a blind child and returned fully sighted. It explores her story, captivity and more.

HOW TO GET AWAY WITH MURDER – This is one of my absolute favourite shows! Once you start you will want to binge and binge and binge. I’ve actually watched this show twice, once alone and again with Alex. He’s not one for binge watching telly but we got through 3 seasons in about two weeks which is record breaking for him! Viola Davies as Annalise Keating is PHENOMENAL. Just watch it. Trust me.

LUTHER – No this is not on the list because I have the biggest crush on Idris Elba. Well it kinda is but it’s also on the list because it’s a bloody amazing show. It’s a BBC crime drama but is now available on Netflix and for me is one of the best detective shows going.

DEXTER – The story of a psychopathic serial killer who murders other criminals that slip through the gaps in American law enforcement. I love it.

I don’t really know how to categorise the rest so I’ll just put them all together.

ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK – The first Netflix show I watched and still one of my faves. It’s very real, very brutal and can be hard to watch at times. It will make you physically angry at times but is oh so worth it.  The acting throughout is also excellent – especially Uzo Aduba.

PRETTY LITTLE LIARS – This is a great show with a complex and constantly twisting plot that’s definitely worth a watch. In my opinion the ending lets it down but that doesn’t stop me recommending it.

GOSSIP GIRL – Drama, lust and scandal on the Upper East Side. What more could you want? I see I’ve tempted you xoxo

JESSICA JONES – The others in the marvel defender’s series didn’t impress me at all. I found Daredevil quite boring and never finished Luke age. I haven’t even attempted Iron Fist but Jessica Jones is a masterpiece. David Tennant plays an incredible villain and you will want to binge the entire season in one day. Huge thumbs up from me.

GREY’S ANATOMY – Technically this isn’t on Netflix but I saved up millions of McDonald’s monopoly stickers and got a few months of NOWTV passes and binged all 317. I couldn’t not recommend this show as it is brilliant but HEARTWRENCHING. Be prepared to cry and fall in love with Dr Derek Shepherd.

RU PAUL’S DRAG RACE –  I couldn’t sashay away without paying tribute to Mama Ru. I was recently introduced to this show and have watched from season 8 onwards ( damn Netflix for removing earlier seasons). This show will make you laugh, make you shook and have you tongue clicking for dayyyssss.

Well done if you’ve made it this far. As you can see, I’m not very good at narrowing down my choices. I hope if you’re stuck for a new series to sink your teeth into this blog has been helpful.

Happy Watching,

Meg xo
