It’s the start of a new week and probably the busiest one of my entire year as it’s show week! That’s right, this Saturday we will finally be perforating Shrek the Pantomime in front of an audience and all our hard work will come together.

I spent the entire weekend with my little loco family as we did our final Saturday and Sunday of rehearsing. This was also the first time we were practicing with bits of costume and makeup etc!

For those of you that don’t know, I’m playing the role of the Sugarplum Fairy who is far from your average rainbows and smiles kinda fairy and more of a gothy, feisty, badass gal. I also get to revisit the famous Madame Thenardier cockney accent so that’s fun. The main thing I do is sing the song ‘This is Me’ from the greatest showman which is a vocal marathon and a half! When we first started I literally couldn’t even remotely hit the notes or sing the ending but I’m proud to say I’m come a long way.

One thing I really struggle with as a cast member is overcoming nerves. I thought I had finally gotten past the shaking like a leaf in both voice and body but we had a few people sit in the audience to watch this weekend and as I use a hand held mic it was sooo visible that my hands were shaking like crazy. Fingers crossed I get passed this for show day as I really want to show everyone that I deserved this part and that I am good enough.

As it’s so close to the show, the stress is definitely starting to set in. I’m trying to help Alex and production team out as much as possible so I stayed after our 8 hour rehearsal days to help design and paint set.

I’m pretty proud of how my Duloc design turned out (seems as I cannot usually draw or paint to save my life) and it was a big group effort to try and get everything done. There’s still a lot left to do but I’m hopeful we will get it all done in time.

It was an exhausting weekend. I’m not very well at the moment and I think my hectic schedule is finally starting to get the better of me. Along with show weekend this week I also have volunteer work, lectures, shifts and assessments due so pray for me please!

I really am so proud of everyone in Loco. Shrek is going to be an amazing show and I can’t wait for the audience to see it for themselves!

Happy Blogmas,

Meg xo
