With just over a day left of 2018 I’ve been taking some time to reflect on all the amazing things that I accomplished and the memories I have made. When I think about it, 2018 was a really big year for me personally. I feel like I really found myself as a person (cliche I know) and finally gained a bit of self confidence. I also made some of the most amazing friendships and overcame obstacles that at the time seemed like impossible task.
TURNED TWENTY
January to me means one thing – it’s ma birthday! 2018 saw me celebrate my 20th birthday at university surrounded by my amazing friends. It really was the best birthday ever as, although I didn’t see my family on the day, Nikkii and everyone put so much effort into making me feel special. Everything from a surprise karaoke party to getting treated to lunch at my favourite restaurant. I have no idea how my 21st will top this but I’m secretly hoping that there will be some big surprises on the way!
CAST A MUSICAL
One of the first big tasks of 2018 for my production team was to cast our production of Grease which will no doubt feature very heavily in this post. I had always wanted to try my hand at casting a large scale show and I’m sure you know that this production of Grease holds a very special place in my heart. To me, casting the show was the beginning of a journey of self challenge, discovery and growth.
CAMPAIGNED AND WON
I was part of the campaign team for my wonderful friend Lucy in her running for President of the students’ union. We won and it gave me a taste for how the campaigning process works – maybe I’ll run for SU President this year, who knows!
LOCO REUNITED
My committee from 2017/18 had the task of hosting a loco reunion which was amazing. It was so good to see so many of the people that helped make my first year of uni incredible. I hope that some of the freshers from last year and this year feel the same about me one day!
GREASE WAS THE WORD
We put on the most incredible production of Grease. Being musical director for this show will always remain one of my greatest achievements. I’m not going to go on too much as there are plenty of blogs dedicated to how I feel about this show, but Loco exceeded all expectations and put on a show for the record books. It’s still in the air what is going on with MD for the wedding singer so I might be back at the teaching malarky soon – watch this space.
COMMITTEE MEMBER OF THE YEAR
I won the award for committee member of the year 2017/18 at the Union Awards. I honestly still can’t believe this happened and that people voted and nominated me for this award. I worked my ass of as MD to the point where looking back I honestly don’t know how I managed to do it and it was so overwhelming getting such a huge reward for my work. Loco also won Tramps Nightclub Society of the Year and we won event of the year for our panto.
FOREVER FRIENDSHIPS
You really do meet your friends for life at university and I am so grateful that 2018 saw me gain the best friends I could ask for.
5 YEARS WITH ALEX
Alex and I officially put up with each other for 5 years! Go us!
SUMMER OF THE SESH
Once Grease was over the rest of summer at uni was dedicated to watching love island, the world cup and more nights out than I can count. We let our hair down and saw out the academic year in style.
DEMI LOVATO
I got to see my idol and queen of my life live for the second time. This holds an extra special place in my heart. I sobbed and sang my heart out with the lady that saved me in so many ways.
HOSTED A POOL PARTY
My amazing mum agreed to let me host a big pool party at my house which meant I had all my pals staying with me for a few days. I think Abergavenny won them over and we’ve definitely got some ‘memories’ to take away from the event.
MOVED IN WITH ALEX
Alex and I officially moved in to our little uni home together. This is one of the best decisions we have made and I couldn’t be happier.
FINAL FRESHERS
I don’t want to write too much for this one as it reminds me that uni is nearly over. *cries*
CAPTAIN OF THE SHIP
I officially started in my new role as Chair person of Loco Show Co. This is a huge challenge as it is a role I have never undertaken before. It’s a learning process but I feel I am doing a pretty okay job so far. I won’t go into every amazing thing Loco has achieved this year but we’ve had a cracking semester and overcome many obstacles as a team.
SHREK THE PANTOMIME
I got cast as the Sugarplum Fairy in Alex’s panto and pushed myself to absolute limit vocally. Auditioning felt super strange after spending the year on production team. I still can’t believe I actually got my own song in a show and by some miracle managed to make it out alive without bursting anyone’s eardrums. I actually have some belief in my singing talents now. This panto was truly special and I am thrilled with how it turned out.
COMPLETED BLOGMAS
Successfully managed to post every day for 25 days and now have so many amazing achievements documented.
If you have made it to the end of this blog – well done! I decided half way through to not include everything but I’ve still managed to wrack up a hefty word count! 2018 you’ve been a good one – 2019 I can’t wait to see what you’ve got in store.
